Allahabad: In a bid to avert any form of malpractice in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2012, the Election Commission is going to monitor the consumption of alcohols by the supporters of candidates, who could rig the polls.

The Excise Department will submit a detailed report on the sale and purchase of liquor every day from January next year. The Election Commission has first time taken this imitative to ensure transparent and fair elections.

The EC will set up a new system which will monitor the expenses coming on alcohols during polls.  Additional Commissioner (Administration) Mukhtiar Verma has been appointed as the nodal officer who will supervise it.

Joint Excise Commissioner Sunil Kumar Sharma said that the District Excise Officers have been appointed as the nodal officers of their concerned districts.

The EC has issued direction to prepare report on wine production, distribution and sale. A detailed report on the sale of wine during January- March 2011 has been given to the Election Commission.
