In order to conduct free and fare Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission will keep eye on voting process through SMSs sent by its poll officials on the polling day.

To keep its guard high on the polling day to deal with any untoward incident, EC has developed the SMS base monitoring system.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Anita Meshram said, “District Magistrates have been directed to appoint nodal officers in their respective districts. Their mobile phones will be fed with the messages based on event and timing. They will have to send the messages to their central server frequently.”

The Presiding Officers will send SMSs with information like arrival of polling party at the polling station, beginning of polling and the voting percentage after every two hours to the central head quarter of the commission. They will have to report to their headquarters about conclusion of voting soon after the ending of polling. The Presiding Officers have been directed to keep their mobile phone on silent mode on the voting day.
