The American Cancer Society however has no formal policy on e-cigarettes but it took a similar stance a few months back.

The groups showed concern over adverse effect of cigarette and have urged for more regulation, especially to keep them away from youth.

They emphasized that initially popular methods like counseling and nicotine patches should be used for making smokers quit cigarettes. But if these traditional methods fail then e-cigarette can be a reasonable option.

Dr Elliott Antman, president the Heart Association said that for people who could not quit smoking even after counseling it is reasonable to have a conversation about e-cigarettes.

The groups however do not recommend e-cigarettes for smoking cessation; they only mention it as an option.
