Lucknow: Adding to the woes of those accused in the murder of two CMOs and mysterious death of Deputy CMO, the Enforcement Directorate is also contemplating on registering a case against them under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

CBI is already conducting a probe in the high-profile issue which has left the Bahujan Samaj Party government of Uttar Pradesh in an awkward position. ED officials are in contact with their CBI counterparts to collect updates in the matter.

The ED will lodge fresh FIRs in connection with money laundering in the alleged corruption in National Rural Health Mission (NHRM).

It is worth mentioning that the ED can investigate into the murder case to establish any possible links between the accused and the victim under the PMLA. The Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (murder) is included in the list of PMLA.

Clearing the air on money laundering probe into the murder case, the ED official said if money is the reason behind someone’s murder, the probe agency can investigate into the matter provided the case is of a property worth Rs 30 lakh or above.

A senior CBI official said the contract killers were hired to kill CMOs VK Arya and BK Singh and Deputy CMO YK Sachan. The rampant corruption in the NHRM is also one of the reasons behind the murder, added the officials.
