Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government was working on the issue of providing honorarium and security cover to panchayat members, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday.

Comprehensive project for construction of panchayat ghars in the state has been launched and is in progress on fast track, he said.

"Government is already working on the issue of honorarium and security cover for panchayat members," Omar told Legislators representing panchayats in the Legislative Council.

Legislators, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Ali Mohammad Dar, Dr Shahnaz Ganai and Sham Lal Bhagat met Omar and discussed various issues relating to strengthening of Panchayat Raj System in the state.

CM assured the Legislators that the demands put forth by them would be given due consideration.
