The nation which believes in the concept of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’ (One World One Family) becomes one during the festive session irrespective of the religion they follow. Eid al-Fitr is one of the religious festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide and in India as well.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan, and on the day of Eid, Muslims are not supposed to fast. Eid falls on the first day of the month of ‘Shawwal’. People who follow Islam believe that Allah had commanded them to fast during the month of Ramadan.

In India, it is one of the most important festivals and is being celebrated throughout the country. Muslims get new clothes, eat something sweet, offer special namaaz in the morning and after the ‘khutbah’ (religious discourse) embrace each other three times with the promise of peace, harmony and brotherhood. What makes it even more special is that non-Muslims join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the festivities.

The Muslim community commemorates and manifests their gratitude towards Allah for everything they own and that is the reason they offer food, cloths, and other useful stuff to the people who are in need. It is mandatory for financially well-off Muslims to make monetary contribution known as Zakat al Fitr during Ramadan.

Apparel stores witness a high number of footfalls and in this age of online marketing, each website offers great discount to its customers on Kurta Pyjama, Mojri, Taqiya, Lehenga, Choli, Kameez, Hijab etc.

Eid-ul- Fitr is the time of the year when our Muslim brothers and sisters meet and greet their near and dear ones. In the memory of the ancestors, people visit graveyards and offers tribute to the departed souls by delivering ‘Fatiha’ (verses from Quran) and flowers as part of Ziyazrat Al Kub’s.  Kids get ‘Eidi’ from the elderly members of the family, which adds more joy to this festival.

The real essence of Eid is to help the people in need and to spread the message of peace and harmony as written in Quran as well.
