New Delhi: Taking cognizance of the video tapes, the Delhi Lokayukta on Wednesday decided to initiate a probe against eight MCD councillors who were allegedly seen demanding money in a sting operation conducted by a news channel.

Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin issued notices to the councillors seeking reply regarding the allegations levied on them. The decision to this effect came after the Lokayukta examined all the footage and other evidences of the sting operation provided by the news channel.

The eight councilors, six from the Bharatiya Janata Party and two from Congress, were purportedly caught on camera demanding money to allow illegal construction in their areas during the sting operation.  These councilors have been suspended from their respective parties.
