New Delhi: In what could be a heart rending tale of National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet Sonali Mukherjee who is struggling with life as unsocial elements poured acid on her in 2003. The acid attack has not only given scars on her face but it has left her shattered and begging justice for lifetime.

To get justice, she has been running pillar to post but the effort went in vain. On her recent visit to Delhi, Sonali appealed for justice from the authorities concerned. Sonali has requested the government that she should be granted either necessary assistance for treatment or mercy killing.

When asked on her struggle, she says that despite assurances from many authorities, no action has been taken so far. On 22nd April, 2003, she was attacked with acid by a group of people in her own house. These men reportedly had raped her few days back. She lost both her eyes in the attack. In order to get treated, she has sold out her jewelleries and ancestral properties. Sonali has undergone 22 surgeries so far, she is yet to recover from trauma. Sonali called on Union Women and Child Development Minister at her residence in Delhi. The Minister has also assured her of free treatment.

Sonali has already met with former Chief Ministers of Jharkhand Shibu Soren, and Madhu Koda and current CM Arjun Munda. But, they failed to bring justice to her. The accused have been granted bail by the court and now they are living their life without any obstacles. At the time of attack, Sonali was studying Sociology at Dhanbad Woman’s College. Sonali has told that a signature campaign will be started in the national capital later it will be handed over to the President of India.
