Movie: Ekk Deewana Tha

Director: Gautham Menon

Cast: Prateik, Amy Jackson

Jagran Rating:       (Average)

Story line: Director Gautham Menon who tasted big success with his Tamil movie Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa adapted the same iconic love story in Hindi as Ek Deewana Tha.

The story revolves around Sachin(Prateik) and his lady love Jessie(Amy). Sachin is a BE graduate hailing from a middle class family in Mumbai. Though he manages to complete his engineering, he desperately wants to become a director. Sachin is completely obsessed with the world of cinema and showbiz. It is love at first sight for Sachin when he comes cross Jessie, a Malayalee Christian from a strict orthodox family. Instead of having strong feeling for Sachin, Jessie who is a year older to Sachin tries to forge a friendship between them. Will Jessie say yes to Sachin? Will they live happily ever after? To get all the answers you have to watch the movie.

Thumbs up: Ek Deewana Tha is a cute and usual love story, which has much needed drama and emotions. The director has created some of the very beautiful moments in the second half. AR Rahman's music, Javed Akthar's lyrics, Gautham's story, MS Prabhu's camera work and beautiful locations are the other highlights of the film.

Prateik and Amy Jackson paring is fresh. Prateik is good on his part. Amy Jackson seems confident and beautiful but lacks to give flesh and blood to the confused character, Jessie. Few emotional moments of second half are really engrossing. Gautham Menon’s endeavour to present a fresh love story is fulfilled to an extent. He has done a good job. AR Rahman's musical score is the major attraction in the technical front and his composition 'Hosanna' is pick of everyone.

Thumbs down: Intolerable first half and dragging story line is the most negative aspects of this film. The attempts to induce twists are unimpressive. Though Prateik tries to good, sometimes he looks confused rather than innocent. Dialogue leaves no impact. Editing is not crisp. Ek Deewana Tha fails to make the viewers completely absorb.
