New Delhi:  Keeping in mind the possibilities of a huge turnout of Congressmen to meet party president Sonia Gandhi at All India Congress Committee (AICC) office at 24 Akbar Road, after her return from the US, security arrangements of the party office are being strengthened to minimize the possibilities of a terror attack.

Sonia Gandhi after undergoing a surgery for an undisclosed ailment is still in the US, and is expected to return back in the next few weeks.

Even before Gandhi’s return, several eminent Congressmen have visited the AICC office to collect information about her. In addition, VVIPs have started sending flowers to the party head-office to wish her a speedy recovery.

Therefore, giving full protection to the guests and to avoid any terror attack, the Home Minister has written a letter to the Delhi Police to tighten the security at the Congress headquarters.

“Looking at the recent serial blast in Mumbai and the terror threats of Muslim militant groups, terrorist may attack in the guise of sympathy,” letter stated.

The number of VVIPs visiting party head-office is likely to increase on Gandhi’s return to India. Also, Gandhi’s residence is merely at a short distance from the Congress headquarters.

Given all of these conditions, the Government has already instructed Delhi Police to step up security and be alert. On Monday, August 8th, several senior officials from Delhi Police had visited the AICC office to review security.
