Fanai told reporters that night foot patrolling between 6 pm and 5 am began from Friday night last by teams of armed and unarmed policemen in Aizawl across all police stations. He said mobile checking of drivers was conducted to prevent drunken drivers from driving buses, maxi-cabs and taxis.

Three police helplines were established at the New Market Area to help people during Christmas shopping. SPs and Commandants were detailed on a rotation basis to oversee the security arrangements every night, he added.
