New Delhi: Although the women reservation bill in Parliament could not see the light of the day, the Election Commission in order to strengthen the democracy has taken a unique initiative to deploy women IAS officers for Goa polls.

Notably, all of the 20 IAS officers deployed as supervisors in the state are women. Not only this, all of them are highly experienced and are not newer than 2002 batch. While many male IAS officers of Haryana, Punjab and other states were willing to be deployed for election duty in picturesque Goa, the commission went ahead with its idea of promoting women IAS officers.

The women IAS officers will be deployed in the state from February 13 to March 4.

A male IAS officer not willing to be named said, “We were looking forward to relish the scenic beauty and amazing weather of Goa but it was not in our destiny.”
