New Delhi: The Election Commission of India is likely to announce the poll dates for five states including Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening.

According to sources, a meeting of election panel has been called on Saturday to discuss the final poll dates.

Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi along with two other election commissioners met Union Home Secretary RK Singh on Friday and discussed about the poll dates.

The EC has asked the Home Ministry to provide 700-800 companies of security personnel to conduct free and fair elections, sources said, adding that Union Home Secretary has refused to meet the demand and assured to provide 80 to 85 percent security personnel of their demand.

The Union Home Ministry wants to reshuffle the deployed security personnel in Naxal-affected areas. Security personnel from Jammu and Kashmir and eastern states can be sent to five poll-bound states.

The sources added that in the last few days the EC has been organising meetings twice in a day to discuss the final dates for the polls.
