Allahabad: Demanding to extend the timeline in issuing notification for the local body poll, the Uttar Pradesh Election Commission along with state government has filed reconsideration plea in Allahabad High Court following the non-compliance of the court’s orders to issue notification for polls by October 31.

The High Court will hear the plea on November 2.  The Election Commission has sought more time of one-and-a-half month to hold local body elections in the state, whereas the state government pointed out unavailability of Census 2011 for their failure in completing the process of conducting local polls. The last local poll was conducted in 2006.

It needs to be mentioned that on October 19 Allahabad High Court in its order asked the sate government to prepare for local elections by officially announcing the poll date by October 3.
