New Delhi: Against the backdrop of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh going to polls to elect their assemblies, the Election Commission (EC) on Friday reminded television news channels and newspapers of poll related coverage and warned against violation the rules.

In a press release here, the EC pointed out to the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which prohibits displaying any election matter 48 hours before polling.

Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat will pick new assemblies in elections Nov 4 and Dec 13 and 17 respectively in what will be a virtual straight fight between the ruling BJP and the Congress in both states.
