Hathras: At a time when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh are at loggerheads over the misappropriation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) funds , the ground reality presents the sorry state of affairs in UP.

Flouting the norms in utilization of funds, the officers deployed to handle the MNREGA operations in western belt of the state (Hathras) have purchased laptops and computers at a price higher than the market and are making payment for fuel consumption through MNREGA funds.

Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Project Director (PD) District Rural Development are presently under the scanner for violating the norms.

However, opposing the accusations, CDO Ravi Kumar claimed, “The items have been purchased as per the set guidelines. We are replying to the points raised by the administration.”

Meanwhile, PD  RP UPadhya said, “The complaint filed is bogus. Administration will hold investigation on all officers who operate MNREGA funds.”

Taking serious note of the fund embezzlement in the district, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) leader Bulandshahar has apprised the state government and Rural Development Ministry of the issue.
