Here are the four movies that were inspired by the blot on the face of Independent India:

1. Aandhi (1975)

Gulzar's Aandhi was political drama film starring Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen. It was banned because the film was supposedly based on Indira Gandhi.

2. Kissa Kursi Ka (1977)

Amrit Nahata's film Kissa Kursi Ka was a bold spoof on the Emergency in which Shabana Azmi played the role of 'Janata', a mute and dumb protagonist. The film was a satire on the politics of Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi and was banned by the government and all prints were confiscated.

3.  Nasbandi (1978)

Nasbandi was a satirical comedy film directed by IS Johar and it starred duplicates of all popular heroes of the time. It was a satire on the sterilization drive of the government of India. The film was banned after its release due to its portrayal of the Indira Gandhi government and its policy of compulsory sterilization during the emergency period.

4.  Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005)

Directed by Sudhir Mishra , Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi tried to portray the growth of the Naxalite movement during the Emergency era. The movie tells the story of three youngsters in the 1970s, when India was undergoing massive social and political changes.
