Kolkata: The employees of Central Dairy have threatened to protest against the decision to shut down the dairy as they suspect some foul play behind it. Employees alleged that there is no seriousness on part of the government to re-open the dairy.

Production at the Central Dairy has been completely closed since Friday which has left 1500 employees jobless.

Belgachia Central Dairy supplies milk in Kolkata, 24 Parganas and Howrah region.

Started in 1962, the dairy has capacity to produces 3 lakh liters of milk per day.

Earlier, the dairy was engaged in production of cow’s milk, double-tonned milk, Haringhata sample milk and Janata milk.

Through 10 Surbhi centers, the milk was first cooled and later distributed. However, a complete ban has been imposed now on this system.

Out of three boilers, two are completely impaired. Third boiler namely Sawedhan Nilmani, which was in use for producing 40,000 liter milk till Thursday, also came to standstill on Friday.

Now, 1500 employees are supplying milk in the city, jails and hospitals from taking aide from Haringhata, Dankuni and Mother Dairy.

The average cost of repairing a boiler is Rs 2.30 lakh, therefore the government is not paying heed to the problem.

Employees also alleged that in last six years State Animal Resource Development Minister Nure Alam Chowdhury never took stock of the Central Dairy and that’s why it is completely shut down.
