Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government is planning to make encroachment on government properties a cognisable offence, a state minister on Thursday said.

"Encroachment on government properties would soon be made a cognisable offence," said UP Urban Development Minister Azam Khan.

The minister appealed people to support the government on anti-encroachment drive against illegal possession of public properties in the state.

It would be better for those, who have wrongly taken the advantage of laxity on the part of administration and the government, to support us, he said.

The minister said that permanent constructions have been made by encroaching upon government properties, especially drains, as a result inconvenience was being faced during the monsoon season.
