New Delhi: Miffed in the controversy after the Supreme Court’s verdict in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, the UPA government is now trucking guns at former Telecom Minister A Raja and the NDA government for the entire irregularities in a bid to project its clear image.

Coming in rescue of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal launched attacks on the NDA government and demanded apology from the BJP for the ‘first come first serve’ policy of its government in allocating the 2G spectrums to the telecom companies.

When asked about why the UPA government failed to reformulate the ineffective policies of the NDA government, Sibal said, “It is the verdict of the honorable court that the policies were vague and highly biased. Our government accepts the court’s verdict.”

Taking a dig at Raja, he said, “Raja who belongs to the UPA’s alliance partner DMK, has allocated the spectrums without give due consideration to the advise of PMO and Finance Ministry. As a result the allocation of licences was biased.”

Soon after the SC pronounced its verdict in the case, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, V Narayanswamy, Minister of State in the PMO held a joint meeting presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

It is noteworthy, however, the Apex Court’s ruling has stirred the hornet’s nest in the UPA government and the political class amid the assembly elections, but SC’s refusal to direct the CBI to probe Chidambaram’s role in the case and instead ask trial court to decide on the Home Minister has imparted certain amount of respite for the Congress led government.
