To kick-start the process, the EPFO has started registering the digital signatures of employers from Thursday as this procedure is mandatory.

It is learnt that the EPFO is hopeful that a number of firms would get their digital signatures registered in the next 14 days and then the body would take the next step to launch the service. It has also been learnt from the sources that EPFO has zeroed in on 15 August i.e., on the occasion of Independence Day, mainly in order to make the process popular and spread awareness about it in a more comprehensive manner.

During 2012-13, 107.62 lakh claims were settled and 88 percent were processed within 30 days as prescribed by the body’s citizen charter and now the EPFO expects 1.2 crore claims in 2013-14 including 13 lakh Provident Fund transfer claims.

Besides, the body also plans online settlements of around 10 lakh transfer claims of tech-friendly applicants mainly from industries like IT this fiscal.
