Dubai: Etisalat, a leading telecom operator in the Middle East and Africa, and Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration on leadership development.

As part of the agreement, Huawei and Etisalat will work together to set up the foundations for an intensive internship programme that aims to improve the competencies and capabilities of Etisalat staff, especially those enrolled in leadership development programmes at Etisalat.

The internship programme outlined in the MoU will consist of a series of joint activities in which senior officials from Huawei and Etisalat will join forces to create a professional development programme tailored to each of the trainees' chosen career paths and conducted over a period of two to three months.

"The prime purpose of this internship programme is to provide Etisalat employees with a meaningful experience ranging from 2-3 months with leading companies such as Huawei in order to enhance their competencies and skills," said Etisalat Senior Vice-President (Human Resources) Faiez Awadh.

"Moreover, Etisalat would like to build on the current business  partnership with Huawei and take that into the next level toward achieving our strategic goals of developing and progressing Etisalat staff and promoting knowledge-based culture, which will lead us to our ultimate goal of placing the UAE as a hub for telecommunication and IT in the region," he said.

"Having partnered with Etisalat on a number of landmark projects across the MENA region, Huawei is looking forward to this collaboration in providing new avenues for the professional development of UAE nationals within the region's ICT industry," said Albert Liuzebin, the Managing Director of Huawei's Etisalat Global Key Account.

"For both Huawei and Etisalat, creating a platform through which to share experiences and best practices will be invaluable in driving the advancement of the telecommunications sector," Liuzebin said.

This MoU is a further testament to both companies' ongoing commitment to mentor ambitious young executives that are passionate about pursuing careers in the ICT industry, he said.

Etisalat's own future leaders programmes -- endorsed by renowned international institutions -- have proven widely successful in fostering the advancement of employees who demonstrate strong leadership potential, he added.
