Jammu: In an unprecedented move, a European Union (EU) delegation snubbed chairman of the hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani by cancelling a scheduled meeting with him. The EU delegation also called-off a meeting with members of the Kashmir Bar Association.

In order to take a stock of the situation in Jammu & Kashmir, the European Union delegation on Sunday met leaders of political parties and social organizations.

The delegation comprised of Ambassador of EU to India, Denielle Samjada, Ambassador of

Ireland Naith Thompson, Ambassador of Belgium Piere Visson, the first secretary of European Union Fillip Grass and Attache Ani Bargir Chatterjee.

The chief whip of BJP in J&K Assembly, Ashok Khajuria presented his views about the prevailing situation in the state before the EU delegation.

He said, “Extremism is the main problem in the state, which is an inherent part of India. The people of J&K will not accept the proposals like self-rule and autonomy. BJP does want the foreign interference in its internal matter.”

He alleged the state government of not coming up with plans to help the Kashmiri Pandits.
Praising the delegation for not meeting Ali Shah Geelani and the Bar Association, the BJP legislator charged that these are the people who are responsible for violence in Kashmir and migration of Kashmiri Pandits.

The head of woman cell of All State Kashmiri Samaj, Dr Usha Tikku, chief of All State Pahari Forum, Shekh Abdul Jishan Ali, too met the delegation.

Before leaving for New Delhi, the delegation members will meet representatives of other political parties and social organizations in the state.
