New Delhi:  Retired Army Colonel Kandasamy Ramraj has been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment for shooting dead a 13-year old boy for plucking almonds from the army residential area in Chennai last year.

13-year-old Dilshan had sneaked into the army residential compound to pluck almonds from a tree. The now retired Col Ramaraj fired at the boy which claimed his life.

Hearing the case, a Chennai fast track court sentenced the former armyman to rigorous jail imprisonment in the case. The postmortem report had established that a bullet killed Dilshan when he scaled the Army campus.

Retired Army officer Lt Col Ramraj was arrested on July 10 by CB-CID for allegedly shooting dead Dilson, after he trespassed into the army officers’ residence in Flag Staff Road in Chennai to pluck fruits on July 3, 2011.
