Sinha, who had served as the Bihar DGP for about three years between 2005 and 2008 was inducted in the BJP by the  state unit party chief Mangal Pandey and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi at a function held at the party office.

Ex-DG (Home Guard) Ashok Kumar Gupta and former ADG Heera Prasad also joined the saffron party on this occasion with a former JD(U) general secretary Ritesh Kumar Singh.

Sinha's entry in the BJP assumes significance in the back drop of his known rapport with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and senior JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar since retiring from service six years ago.

He had also unsuccessfully contested the general elections on a Congress ticket from Nalanda Lok Sabha seat and stood third polling 1.27 lakh votes.

Speaking on the occasion, the 66 year-old former cop pledged to work hard to ensure that the BJP comes to power in Bihar in next year's Assembly polls.
