New Delhi: One can see the wastage of government funds at the Commonwealth Games Village, where goods of international standard like sofas and beds are gathering dust.

Furniture and other goods like plush mattresses, sofas, dining tables, chairs, etc which were made available at the five star flats at the Games Village are kept in the basement of the Village.

The direct question for the officials is that had the articles had been their personal belongings, would they have left them for biting dust. The stuffs belong to India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).

According to sources, till now it has not been decided that where these items will be taken.

A senior official of ITDC said that the expensive items were arranged on a big scale and it will take time to move them. The official has also claimed that the furniture is safe at the Village.

The furniture which was provided by ITDC in 4, 000 rooms of the Village were removed after the Delhi Development Authority came down heavily on the corporation. But, the articles were kept at the basement.

Sources said, the contractors mishandled the items while putting them in the basement due to which some of the articles are either damaged or broken.
