New Delhi: Triggering a security scare in the capital, a car parked outside Delhi High Court caught fire on Wednesday resulting into a minor explosion.

The car caught fire resulting into an explosion at around 1:30 pm, fire brigade and police said.

Police said they were yet to ascertain the reasons for the blast. "We are checking. We don't know the reasons for the blast," a senior police official said. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in and around the area.

Bomb Disposal Squad and Delhi Police officials have rushed to the spot.

The car which has been found to be registered in west Delhi allegedly belongs to a lawyer practicing in the HC. According to witnesses, there was a package near the spot where the car was parked and smoke was emanating from the spot giving rise to speculations about the possibilty of a terror hand behind the incident.
