New Delhi: South Asia’s largest prison Tihar, which is also considered as one of the safest prisons of India, is once again making news but for all the bad reasons. The Special Cell of Delhi police has busted an extortion racket being running from behind the walls of Tihar Jail.

Arun Kumar, a contractual compounder working at Tihar has been arrested for running the racket on the directions of notorious jailed criminal Amit Shukla. According to the police, Kumar allegedly extorted Rs 50, 000 crore from a firm manager.

The action came after the police got a tip off that a noted criminal is orchestrating criminal activities from the jail premises with the help of his accomplices.

Acting on that, the police arrested Kumar and recovered the extortion money from his possession at Mukund Vihar in Delhi.

After sustained interrogation, Kumar revealed that while working in Tihar he came in contact with Amit Shukla and started extorting money. He also bought a mobile phone and a SIM for Amit.
