While Chandra Shekhar’s elder son Pankaj Shekhar is claiming himself to be BJP candidate from Salempur, Ravi Shankar Singh alias Pappu, the grandson of Chandra Shekhar’s elder brother, has already been declared a party candidate from by BSP from the same constituency. Pappu is currently BSP member in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. If BJP fields Pankaj in Salempur, it would be interesting to see political battle among family members of Chandra Shekhar.

The elder son of the former prime minister is a business man by profession, whereas the younger son, Neeraj Shekhar is the Samajwadi Party MP from Ballia. Pankaj, who recently took membership of the BJP, had announced to contest form Salempur. His village Ibrahimpatti falls in this constituency. He frequently visits the constituency.

This is not the first time when he would be contesting from this seat. Earlier in 2009, he had unsuccessfully contested LS elections on Janata Dal (United) ticket.
