New Delhi: The failures of the Union government in tackling corruption, inflation and scandals have now started to haunt the Congress party. Facing flak from the Opposition in the Parliament to public on large, the Congress has cancelled its much awaited Chintan Shivir, aimed to analyse the party’s performance along with discussing on major national issues prevailing in the country.

Lately, the brewing anger of the Opposition as well as the allies on Foreign Direct Investment in retail sector that came to the fore in the Parliament on Monday have compounded to the miseries of the Congress.

According to the sources, the decisions of the government have raised the concerns of the Congress in various sectors. The party is yet to face the biggest challenge of Punjab and Uttarakhand Assembly elections lined up in a few months.
 
Also, the largest state of the country, Uttar Pradesh is set for elections next year and the party is keen to bear the fruits of the efforts put in by Congress scion Rahul Gandhi. The party is threatened by the issues faced by the Centre, to create a hurdle for the party in the states.

Party high command Sonia Gandhi had announced to hold the Chintan Shivir in her address during the Congress meet in Burari last year. But according to the party intellectuals, the programme will not be a wise decision as the party is already in deep crisis over a number of issues.
 
It is to be noted, Congress has organized such programmes earlier in Pachmarhi and Shimla.
