Hisar: In an effort to encourage sports activities amongst youngsters belonging to Schedule Caste (SC) category, the Haryana government is all set to launch the ‘Fair Play’ scholarship scheme from September 2.

With this project, Haryana would become the first state in the country to offer scholarship to young SC players.

The Fair Play scholarship would be distributed to players coming up with outstanding performance on the state, national and international level. For the inclusion in the scheme, players will have to prove their worth in various competitions held throughout the year.

Worried over the presence of only 5 percent SC players from among 5,000 players selected through Sports and Physical Aptitude Test this year, State Sports Department started drafting the Fair Play scholarship scheme. After the approval from the state government, the scheme would be started from September 2.

Deputy Director of Sports Department, Dr S S Nandal, said the project has been drafted observing the scant presence of SC players despite abundance of talent.
