Kawardha: In what could be a surprising revelation about Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Scheme in Chhattisgarh where Kabirdham district has more number of workers registered under the UPA’s flagship programme than the total population in the district.

According to the 2011 census, the total population of the district is 8,22,239 whereas number of registered workers under the MNREGS is 8,73,248. The inconsistency in the data reflects the exploitation of the corrupt officials.

If we have a look at the statistics of District Panchayat in 2012-13, almost 99 percent of the registered families have not been allocated at least 100 days of work. Total number of registered families is 2,46,460. Out of these, 45,069 cards have been cancelled. Only 640 families have been provided with 100 days of work so far.
