New Delhi: Amid a fall in the production of natural gas at Reliance Industries’ KG-D6 basin, Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma has written a letter to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister S Jaipal Reddy and urged him to order the manufacturers of sponge iron to ensure regular supply of gas to the steel manufacturers.

After the shortfall in production of gas in Reliance KG D6 basin, the Petroleum Ministry decided to cut down supply of gas for various industries in the order of priority list.

The Petroleum Ministry wrote a letter to the concerned industries on April 21 for they had to bear a cut in the gas supply. Following this, sponge iron industry knocked the door of Petroleum and Steel Ministries.

In the order of priority list for gas supply, steel industry falls at fourth place. Soon after production in KG D6 basin, an empowered group of minister has decided the order of various industries for the gas supply.

The fertilizer sector is at the top in the list order, for which 157 lakh cubic metres gas was allocated.

After this LPG, electricity and city gas found place in the order of priority list. For steel industry 41.90 lakh cubic metres gas was allocated in the list.
