Here, we bring some picture of Gandhiji's statues that mark his presence across the globe irrespective of nationalities. According to reports 70 countries have installed statues of Mahatma Gandhi. Here are few of them.



1. Pietermaritzburg, South Africa: Mahatma Gandhi was one of the first person who had fought against racial discrimination in South Africa. For his contribution in fight against colonial atrocities, South African government installed statue of Gandhi.

2. Johannesburg, South Africa: This is one of the few statues of young Mahatma Gandhi. It was unveiled on October 2, 2003.

3. Amsterdam, Netherlands: The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was built at the Churchillaan street in 1995. Interestingly, the street is named after Churchill, former Prime Minister of England who once refused to receive Mahatma Gandhi commenting that he was a naked fakir (beggar).

4. Washington, USA: This 8 ft 8 inch bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled by former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee on September 16, 2000.


5. The Hague, The Netherlands: Here the statue of Mahatma Gandhi was built on June 25, 2004.2005.

6. Nicosia, Republic of Cyprus: The statue of Gandhi was sent by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations in September, 2005.


7. Almaty, Kazakhstan: The statue of Gandhi was sent by Indian Council of Cultural Relations for installation at Almaty, Kazakhstan.

8. Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil: The statue of Mahatma Gandi was installed under the cultural exchange programme between government of Brazil and government of India.


9. London, England: It was unveiled in 1968 by the then Prime Minister Harold Wilson. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi is a centre-piece of the Tavistock Square.
