Mumbai (JNN/Agencies): Who is Bollywood’s present K L Saigal? Well, this question may seem absurd, but an actor cum singer seems to have been lately inspired by legendary singer K L Saigal and vowed to tread in his footsteps. Eighty years ago, singer and actor KL Saigal vowed to sing only for himself and no one else. Farhan Akhtar, it seems, is determined to strike a similar chord.

Filmmaker, actor and composer Farhan Akhtar has surprised many when he turned down an offer to sing for Aamir Khan. He is adamant not to sing for anybody but for himself.

It is said that director Reema Kagti wanted Farhan to at least one of the songs picturised on Aamir in her upcoming film but he turned down the offer even though his company Excel is producing it. He is of the opinion that his voice should match the character.

“I enjoy singing. It is true, I haven't sung for anyone else on screen apart from myself. But it's not because I am possessive about my voice. I don't know if my voice will work on anyone else. My singing adds to my performances. I don't know if it would do the same for the other actors,” a newspapaerquoted Farhan as saying.

However, that doesn't mean that he will not sing for others at all. He said that he would sing for others if he really feels like. He added that he would sing only for himself for the moment, as it is not his profession.

It maybe recalled that he had earlier turned down singing offers from A R Rahman and Rohan Sippy. He didn't even sing for his film Karthik Calling Karthik. However, he made an exception for his sister Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara after Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol also agreed to lend their voices for their respective characters.
