Faridkot: Punjab Police on Monday arrested one more accused in connection with the September 24 abduction of a teenage girl from Faridkot, taking the total number of those apprehended in the case to 15.

The arrest comes a day after the kidnapped girl was rescued from Goa and the main accused in the case held, police said.

Toofan Singh alias Toofani was arrested on Monday following a tip-off from Malsian Bhaike village of Jagraon Police district, SSP (Moga) Surjit Singh Grewal said here. Two accused – Navjot Kaur, mother of prime suspect Nishan Singh, and one Sarra, who is a local Councillor – are yet to be arrested, the SSP said.

The accused were handed over to the Faridkot Police, which is investigating the case, Grewal said. Meanwhile senior police officials, including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nirmal Singh Dhillon met the family of the abducted girl here last evening after the recovery of the girl in Goa.

The family urged the police to hand over the girl to them immediately after she was brought here from Goa so that theycould take care of her.

The girl was yesterday rescued from Goa and the prime accused Nishan Singh was nabbed. Punjab Police will bring back the girl to Faridkot after completing legal formalities in Goa, police said.
