Greater Noida: Life in Bhatta-Parsaul – the twin villages in Greater Noida which were the epicentre of farmers’ agitation over land acquisition, is gearing back to normalcy, but the violent agitation has hit the development projects coming up in their neighbourhood very hard. Work for the residential projects and Yamuna-Expressway has failed to resume even 18 days after the violent protest.

The labourers engaged in the construction work are still apprehensive of a backlash from the annoyed farmers. Though the officials of Expressway-Authority are making efforts to get the construction work started at the earliest, the labourers along with the contractors are not ready to get back to work.

The farmers of Bhatta-Parsaul have been agitating since January. During their agitation, the farmers have not only tried to stop the ongoing work of Yamuna Expressway Authority at residential sectors 18 and 20, but also have thrashed the workers at the construction sites.

Fearing farmers’ wrath, the Authority had to get the road construction work done in the presence of police and the PAC. In the wake of the violent clash between farmers and the police on May 7, the development work at the residential sites had come to a halt.
Even 18 days after the violence, the work could not be started at the construction sites.

Notably, the Authority has been carrying out the construction of 130 metre broad road along the Yamuna Expressway to connect it with the sectors 18 and 20. The construction of 5-Km road is on the verge of completion. The authority had set July as the deadline for completing road construction of 15 km of rood. However, following the farmers’ agitation the road construction work was brought to a standstill.

Furthermore, the Authority was also ready with the master plan of the internal and external development of the residential sector and had assigned its construction work to the Nirman Nigam. In the wake of farmers’ unrest, the department could not even complete the survey. Besides, the work of the construction of guest house at a few villages on the Yamuna Expressway is hanging in balance following the violence. Meanwhile, the Authority is claiming to start with all the development works by the next week.
