New Delhi, Jan 07 (Agencies): Union Minister Farooq Abdullah, on Friday, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to disturb the situation in Kashmir Valley by planning to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Republic Day.

"This (BJP) is a party which wants to destroy India and doesn't want to strengthen it. They want to start new disputes. We want to improve the situation but they want to disturb that situation," he said.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha is scheduled to lead an 'Ekta Yatra' from Kolkata on January 12, which will culminate at Lal Chowk with the flag hoisting on January 26, 2011.

Abdullah also said that there was no need for the BJP to hoist the flag as the state Chief Minister on national festivals himself hoists the national flag at the Bakshi stadium in Srinagar.

He said a similar attempt was made by BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi in 1991 during his tenure as the Chief Minister of the state.
"How did it help? Did India become strong by this or was weakened," Abdullah asked.
