Recently, a whopping amount of Rs 23 crore has been seized from different places. Although the EC is unable to determine the exact source or motive of this seizure, it is of the view that, the candidates contesting in the elections could have used this amount for their benefits in the elections.
The audacity of the candidates to use black money could be gauged from the recent seizure of Rs 11 crore from Ghaziabad. The police said those in the van were carrying money from an Axis Bank branch in Delhi's Jhandelwalan to Moradabad in UP. But they did not have the necessary documents to carry that huge an amount.
The nodal officer appointed by the EC, Director Ajay Pratap Singh said, “It is the duty of the I-T department to seize unaccounted cash. We are only responsible to confiscate such amounts which do not have the validation of proper documents.”
Similarly, an amount of Rs 80 lakh was apprehended from a van in Prabudhnagar. The men carrying the cash did not have proper documents. Significantly, there has been seizure of huge amounts from small localities. Like from Saharranpur Rs 25 lakhs were seized, Rs 1crore 30 lakhs from Sahahuji Maharajnagar, 65 lakh from Bagpat district and Rs 81 lakh from Bikapur.
