Hoogly: In a shocking incident a female activist of Trinamool Congress was shot dead by unidentified persons in Kishanpur area here on late Saturday night.

According to the police, Jayanti Hazari (28) was gunned down at her home by some unidentified assailants who were inquiring about her husband Partha Chatterjee. The body of the deceased has been sent for autopsy, said the police.

Citing a political angle in the murder, District Trinamool president Tapan Dasgupta accused the local CPI leader Zainal Khan and former CPI (M) MLA from Arambagh Vinay Dutt for their alleged hand behind the murder.

However, the CPI (M) leaders have denied the allegations made against the party members.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested Zainal’s elder brother Sademanik Khan and two others namely Madhav Malik and Siraj Khan after the preliminary enquiry, informed Arambag IC Sukomal Das.
