Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta Justice N K Mehrotra has asked Energy Minister Ramveer Upadhyay to file his reply to the notice in the context of his alleged involvement in the graft charges by March 5 and his family members, including father, wife and sister-in-law, have been given March 2 deadline for shooting off reply in this regard.

Earlier, the Lokayukta had turned down the plea of Upadhyay, who had sought time for clearing his stand regarding the graft charges on the pretext of being busy with election campaign for his party, and insisted him to reply by February 17.

The Minister had pleaded that he be given time till the elections results were out, considering his involvement in the election works.

However, the Lokayukta had intimated him that the last date for clearing his position in all cases was February 16 as there was no provision of extending the deadline under the Lokayukta Act.

Petitioner Ashwini Sharma had put allegations on Upadhyay for having disproportionate assets, forcibly acquiring properties and misusing his post in faveuring his family members in getting big PWD contracts in many districts.
