"A new channel named 'Arun Prabha', which will be a 24x7 channel, will be started in the North-East region," Arun Jaitley said.

He also announced a sum of Rs 1,000 crore for rail connectivity and Rs 2,000 crore for road connectivity in the region.

The Finance Minister proposed an outlay of Rs 1,000 crore for rail infrastructure in the region.

The minister told the Lok Sabha while presenting the national budget that this sum will be over and above the funds allocated in the railway budget for the North-East.

On Tuesday, Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda allocated Rs 5,116 crore for projects in the Northeastern region.

The railways is expected to take up eco-tourism and education tourism in the North-East.

There are 23 projects under way in the region, of which 11 are national projects.

The government also proposed to develop organic farming in the Northeastern region by allocating Rs 100 crore.

Jaitley said, "Rs 100 crore has been allocated for development of organic farming in North-East region."
