New Delhi: The Finance Minister P Chidambaram has underlined the need to adopt modern technologies in tax administration. Chidambaram also appealed citizens to file income tax return every year.

P Chidambaram stressed on the need to take all 28 lakh people who pay TDS in tax network. The process to transfer the TDS amount into government’s account and payback to people claiming refund is found to be cumbersome at present and the whole process can be made convenient only by introducing modern technologies. The FM expressed his views while inaugurating an income tax unit at Vaishali in Ghaziabad district.

The FM also said that Income Tax department is moving towards modern technologies. TDS return will be examined at the new centre. The tax process will get convenient with new centre.  

Chidambaram said, “Out of 28 lakh people paying TDS in the country, only 14 lakh people are filing ITR. We are trying to trace rest 14 lakh people.”
