Congress MLA Mateen Ahmed to be pro-tem Speaker

Congress MLA Mateen Ahmed will be the pro-tem Speaker of Delhi Assembly, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday.

"Mateen Ahmed is the pro-tem Speaker. We had earlier proposed Jagdish Mukhi's name for pro-tem Speaker. It is the tradition and rule that the senior most leader in the House becomes the pro-tem Speaker,” he said.

"But he refused and said no BJP member would accept the post. JD (U) Shoaib Iqbal also refused it,” Kejriwal added.

Pro-tem Speaker will perform the duties from the commencement of the first meeting of the Assembly until the new Speaker is elected.
