Bhatnagar: Making it a proud moment for the Patiala Army, President Pratibha Patil on Sunday honoured 5 Army regiments for their outstanding achievements and services for the nation. Amid drum beats and military tunes and in the presence of Army Chief General VK Singh the Army officers were provided flags by the President.

This historical moment was witnessed by several Army personnel, Chief Guest and civilians. To make it an unforgettable moment, for the first time 132 T-55 and T-90 tanks simultaneously greeted the President.
Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil and state Foreign Minister Preneet Kaur also attended the ceremony. Army families started gathering since morning and the President arrived here around 11.38 am.

The President in her speech said, “Brave officers, junior commissioned officers and all regiments… your history of 44 years is brimming with many examples of commitment, efficiency and dedication.”

On this occasion the President also released stamp and signed Army register to lodge her entry.
