Let us have a look at five most memorable moments of Indian hockey:

1. Six successive Olympic Gold medals in hockey (1928-1956):

Before cricket became the household name, it was hockey which dominated the charts and hearts. India won back to back six Olympic Golds, owing to which, the country still enjoys the top rank on the all-time Olympic medal charts, with eight gold medals. Helped by the wizardry of Dhyan Chand, the team won the Olympic in 1928 with conceding a single goal. In this 28 year period of dominance, Indian team scored 178 goals and won 24 consecutive matches.



2. Hockey World Cup 1975

This World Cup victory against Pakistan came after years of waiting after the great golden age of Indian hockey. The tournament was held in Malaysia and India defeated its arch rival Parkistan 2-1.



3. Women's Hockey World Cup 2002
This was the first time the women's hockey team made the nation proud in a tournament which was so dramatic that it inspired the script of Shah Rukh Khan starrer movie 'Chak De!' in 2007.



4. Men's Asia Cup 2014

The Asian Games jinx got broken after 16 years in 2004 which also led to India's direct entry into the 2016 Rio Olympics.



5. Junior Men's Asia Cup 2015
Basking in the glory is India's junior hockey team which won the Junior Hockey Asia Cup yesterday. The Hockey India trounced Parkistan 6-2.
