Gurdaspur attack: On 27 July, the rare terror strike in Punjab in eight years took place when heavily-armed terrorists in army uniform traded guns on a moving Punjab roadways bus coming from Jammu and Kashmir.  The brave  bus driver, Nanak Chand drove the bus straight to a government hospital, where the injured passengers were treated.

Later the assailants stormed in Dinanagar Police Station of Gurdaspur district, seriously injuring five policemen, including an SP, and injuring eight others in Gurdaspur bordering Pakistan. One terrorist was killed and another seriously injured in the gun battle with security forces that stretched for over 10 hours as the terrorist were holed up in a vacant building adjacent to Dinanagar Police Station. This counter-terrorism operation which was conducted by Punjab Police SWAT Team was widely praised.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Digital India Week: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Digital India Week on July 1, 2015  with a view to empower the people of the country through the Digital India Programme.

The government took a series of initiatives for developing various applications and portals that would go a long way in making the lives of the citizens better. The Digital India Week that was launched by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on July 1, 2015 also aims at encouraging people’s involvement and creating awareness among them.

The vision of Digital India Programme aims at inclusive growth in areas of electronic services, products, manufacturing and job opportunities etc. The vision of Digital India is centred on three key areas -
(i)      Digital Infrastructure as a Utility to Every Citizen
(ii)    Governance & Services on Demand
(iii)   Digital Empowerment of Citizens

With the above vision, the Digital India Programme also aims to provide Broadband Highways,Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity,  Public Internet Access Programme,  E-Governance: Reforming Government through Technology, eKranti - Electronic Delivery of Services,Information for All, Electronics Manufacturing: Target Net Zero Imports,  IT for Jobs.

Nagaland declared a 'disturbed state': On 9th July, the Home Ministry declared Nagaland as a 'disturbed area' from 30th June onwards for a year. The decision came in the wake of the NSCN-K's (the dominant Naga rebel group) attack on an army convoy in Manipur’s Chandel district, killing 18 soldiers. The Home Ministry said Nagaland is in a disturbed or dangerous condition that the use of armed forces in aid of civil power is necessary. After the enforcement of AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958), the armed forces are empowered to search, raid and arrest without a warrant.

Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won Wimbledon doubles title: Wonder pair Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won the Wimbledon Women's doubles title on 12th of July. The pair beat Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in three sets of a match no one would have expected for them to win. It is interesting to note that it took Hingis 17 years, half of her lifetime, to add to her three Wimbledon title. This was just another feather to the duo's cap for whom this proved to be golden year as they went on to win as many as ten WTA titles and extend their friendship outside the court as well.

Leander Paes and Martina Hingis won Wimbledon mixed doubles title: Just one day after winning gold in women's doubles with Sania Mirza, Martina Hingis won another Wimbledon title in mixed doubles with Leander Paes. Already having won Australia Open in  January, this was second win for the pair in six months. As for Paes, he just seems to get better with age as 12 of his 16 doubles titles came between the age of 30 and 40.

Supreme Court suspended IPL teams Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years:
Raising serious questions on IPL team owners and its organizing committee, Supreme Court bench which was headed by former Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha, issued an order on 14th of July to suspend Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years. Their owners, Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra were found guilty of illegal betting and were handed life suspensions from all cricket related activities. Gurunath Meiyappan is the son of former ICC chairman N Srinivasan while Raj Kundra is a successful industrialist and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's husband.

ISRO launch UK satellites: On 10th July, ISRO launched five UK satellites with a total payload of 1,440 kg using the PSLV-C28 launch vehicle.
