Bhagalpur: The long-pending demand of the residents of Bhagalpur for air-service is likely to get fulfilled after a private airline Skyfisher Airways Ltd announced to introduce air-services from May 15.

The air-circuit will be Bhagalpur-Patna-Gaya-Varanasi in the initial stage.

The airways would operate a 12-seater Cessna Grand Caravan 208B on this route. Rishikesh Mishra, MD of Skyfisher Airways Ltd, said, “The fares between Bhagalpur to Patna would be Rs 2500 – Rs 3000 whereas for Varanasi it will be Rs 6000.”

Bhagalpur airfield was constructed in 1973 and commercial air-services were provided by a private operator Kalinga between Kolkata-Bhagalpur-Muzaffarpur-Raxaul. Due to commercial non-viability at that time, the air-services were withdrawn after couple of years.
