"The water level in major rivers is receding. Though many of them are still flowing above the danger mark, the flood situation is improving," sources said.
Ganga at Ballia, Sharda at Palia Kalan (Lakhimpur), Ghaghra at Turtipar (Ballia), Rapti at Balrampur and Gorakhpur, Budhi Rapti at Kakrahi and Quano at Gonda were flowing above the danger mark, according to the office of the state relief commissioner.
Ganga, which had been in spate at several spots, is now static at Bulandshahr, Kanpur and Rae Bareli and also showed a receding trend at Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ballia and Ghazipur.
According to the MeT office, in the rainfall recorded in state in the past 24 hours, Saharanpur-Katarnia Ghat in Bahraich received showers measuring 90mm followed by Pallia Kalan in Lakhimpur with 70mm.
Sharda Nagar received 50mm rainfall, Fatehpur and Bijnor 40mm each. Besides, a forecast of rain or thundershowers have also been issued in the state in the next 24 hours.
