In Jorhat district of the state, villages are now empty as houses and shacks were submerged under water. Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Barpeta, Morigaon, Kachar, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Tinsukia, Darang, Baksa , Nalbari , Udalguri , Kamrup and Dibrugarh are among the worst affected areas in the state.

The ministers from the Central and state governments have visited the flood-affected areas and assured help to the affected people. Relief camps have been set up all across the state as well. In the state’s Kaziranga National Park (KNP) the situation was no better as water reached danger level and two animals – a deer and a rhino calf – were drowned to death since last week.

The Brahmaputra river and many of its tributaries have breached their banks after downpours, washing away thousands of homes mostly made of bamboo and straw, as well as roads, bridges and power lines.
